woman arrested for burying one-day child alive

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a woman, Ms Patience Aaron, for attempting to kill her new born baby girl.
It was learnt that Aaron, an indigene of Afaha Abia village, in the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state, on September 14, buried her one-day baby alive.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, said during a press conference in Uyo on Thursday that the baby was rescued alive nearly five hours after she had been buried.
“The state police detective on September14, 2014 arrested one Patience Aaron of Afaha Abia village in the Nsit Ibom LGA for attempting to kill the baby girl she gave birth to.
“Patience buried her one-day-old baby in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive. Investigation is in progress,” he said.
The CP, however, added that it was discovered that Aaron was ill and had been taken to a hospital
The command also arrested 36 others for various offences, ranging from murder to foiled armed robbery and recovery of N8.9m between the months of August and September.
The command arrested one Kufreobong Anwana in the University of Uyo for possession of improvised explosive devices. Another suspect, Udo Effiong, was nabbed for stealing two solar batteries and a panel. One Andre Moses, a driver with Union Bank Plc, Lagos, was picked up for absconding with his boss’ Hyundai and selling the vehicle to a Ghanaian in Port Harcourt.
Achong said the police also rescued stolen children ─ Goodness Sunday (2years); David Eyo (2years); Edikan Sunda (9years); and Gift Joshua (13 years).
The commissioner also explained that on August 25, a manager of a telecommunications company in Ikot Ekpene with one of his drivers went to lodge N8.9m in a bank.
He added that some hoodlums on a motorcycle trailed them, shot the driver of the vehicle and dispossessed them of the money. He said the police rounded up the hoodlums and recovered the money.
