Obasanjo, Babangida was Absent at Jonathan's Declaration.
According to sourcePresident Goodluck Jonathan yesterday, November 11, formally declared his intention to run for a second term in office at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
Notably absent at the ceremony were former President Olusegun Obasanjo and ex-head of state, Ibrahim Babangida, who are both members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obasanjo
has in recent times been at loggerheads with President Jonathan
accusing him of destroying the Nigerian economy and likening his regime
to that of late dictator, Sani Abacha.
Chief
Obasanjo is believed to be against the president’s second term ambition
as he pointed out in an 18 page letter written on December 6, 2013 that
Jonathan had promised to stay in office for only one term.
The ex-president also accused Jonathan, through the letter, of training snipers to assassinate his political enemies.
