Teen dead, others trapped as car crashes through chemist shop in Kogarah, south of Sydney

A SCHOOLGIRL was killed in Sydney’s south this morning when she was hit by an out-of-control car while waiting at a bus stop.

The freak accident claimed the life of the teenager at Kogarah and injured others when a 4WD crashed into a chemist.

She was a student of nearby Kogarah High. The location is the exact same place a similar fatality occurred in 2007.

Police said the girl was pinned under the vehicle and died at the scene.

The impact of the 4WD was so great debris littered the road and the vehicle was lodged in the shopfront of the O’Reilly & Daly Chemist on the corner of Mongomery St and Railway Pde, just after 11.30am.

Dramatic pictures show it almost completely inside the shop after smashing through the windows and knocking over shelving.

NSW Ambulance transported two others to St George Hospital who were reported to be seriously injured. .It’s understood they were employees of the chemist.

The accident happened directly across from Kogarah railway station and there were many people around.

A fourth person was treated at the scene for less serious injuries. One of the injured was a man in his 60s who was pinned under a cabinet inside the chemist.

The female driver of the 4WD was taken to hospital for shock and will undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.

Police are investigating if speed was a factor in the crash.

There were two small children in the car with the woman.

At least two people were trapped under the car and had to be freed by fire fighters. A 10-tonne winch was used to lift the car away from the cabinet and the man was taken to hospital.
