ASUU Expresses Worry Over kidnap Lecturer.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Delta State University (DELSU) Chapter, has raised the alarm over the kidnap of one of its lecturers, Dr. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, expressing fears that ever since the kidnap of the university Don over a week ago, no group has claimed responsibility for his abduction or contact with the family.Tonukari, an associate Professor of Microbiology at the Delta State University, Abraka went missing on his way from Sapele to Abraka on Monday 13 October, 2014.
His car was found abandoned in the neighbourhood of Eku in Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.
But statement jointly signed by the Chairman, ASUU-DELSU, Prof Abel Diakparomre and Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, they called on those holding him to release him immediately and unconditionally without harm.
The statement described Tonukari as a peace loving, humanistic, philanthropic individual, who believes in the welfare of the vulnerable, defence of the oppressed and support for the progressive.
It also called on security agencies to step up efforts at ensuring his safety and unconditional release.
The statement read in part: “Lecturers are peaceful, unassuming, loving and harmless set of people who commit themselves to the realisation of functional intellectualism and pragmatism.
