Labour decries NIMC’s plan to sack 1,000 workers.
management of the National Identity Management Commission to sack about 1,000 workers using rationalisation as an excuse.
In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by its Secretary-General, Mr. Alade Lawal, the ASCSN described a claim by NIMC that there were 600 fake employees in its payroll as untrue.
The association said the hoax raised by NIMC was a ploy to sack about 1,000 senior workers it had penciled down for rationalisation.
Lawal urged the public to shun the commission’s claim.
The association, however, said that for inexplicable reasons, the NIMC management had started a phased retrenchment of many of its workers.
The ASCSN said, “After the sacking of about 5,000 junior workers, the NIMC management decided to retrench 1,000 senior employees who are our members. It was at that point that we intervened but since the NIMC management shunned efforts we made to resolve the dispute amicably, we took the matter to the National Industrial Court for adjudication and the case is being handled by an expert in Labour Jurisprudence, Enobong Etteh of Rocheba Chambers. The management of NIMC should submit itself to the court processes that are on-going rather than dance naked in the market place.
