Balotelli

According to manager Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli would not be sold in the January transfer window; he would be given every chance to fight his way back into the team
Balotelli was left out of Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round goalless draw with Bolton, provoking speculation the 24-year-old’s career at Anfield was over.
Rodgers said on Monday that it’s been a difficult period for the Liverpool striker but “he’s a good boy”.
Balotelli is said to have started the season with just eight league matches, his last in a 2-1 home defeat by Chelsea on 8 November, and has been linked with a move to Lazio.
The Italy forward is yet to score a Premier League goal since arriving from AC Milan last summer.
Rodgers added: “I’ve seen some bits this morning suggesting that’s him done here. That’s not the case at all”.
The team Manager also said: “I’ve shown in my time here that if players who have been out the fold for various reasons work hard every day in training, and show intensity and focus, then they have every chance of getting back in the side and staying there”.

After being left “embarrassed” by Bradford City, Jose Mourinho has demanded a response as his Chelsea side seek to reach the League Cup final against Liverpool on Tuesday.

“We go into the game against the Merseyside outfit with the scores level at 1-1 following last week’s first leg at Anfield, meaning any type of victory would see us progress,” he said.
With their involvement in the FA Cup coming to an end over the weekend, the Blues boss wants his side to take the opportunity to secure a place in next month’s Wembley final.
“The next game is the most important one,” said Mourinho. ‘At the end of May, beginning of June, we don’t go to Wembley to play the FA Cup final, that’s for sure. The FA Cup is finished for us. We don’t go there even to play the FA Cup semi-final. It’s over for us. To go there – and I think that should mean a lot to everyone – the last chance we have is this one, to play there in the Capital One Cup final.
“We need to forget this one [Bradford] and start the next game in a different competition, and I know we are one victory away from playing a final.
“It’s the good thing about playing consecutive matches without many days in between. It’s the good thing that, when you lose, you have to focus immediately on the next game. You don’t have a lot of time to be moaning or analysing what happened in the bad one. Let’s move and let’s think about the next one.”
With the January transfer window only open for another week, Mourinho manager once again explained why he is not looking to conduct any business.
“I’m happy to go (until the end of the season with the same squad),” he said. “This is Chelsea, always thinking and being proud of thinking about numbers and Financial Fair Play.
“We cannot now go to the market and spend money. So I’m completely with the club. I share this idea, I share this profile. I don’t think we are going to the market, unless somebody comes and makes a market which meets with us.”
Speaking in the aftermath of the shocking defeat, manager Mourinho stated that his players should feel “ashamed” of themselves.

The rumour that Equatorial Guinea Football Federation might offer out-of-contract Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi a lifeline by giving him an appointment as their national team coach is very strong but the debate on whether he should remain as Super Eagles coach is gaining more momentum.
Like we reported yesterday, the debate is being orchestrated by prominent former national team handlers who, it seems, have lost patience with Keshi who has refused to declare openly whether he is staying put as Super Eagles coach or leaving.
A former Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Federation and one time coach of the national team, Fanny Amun has joined the Kehsi-must-go debate. Amun who guided Nigeria to the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup triumph in Japan would prefer a major shake up in the Eagles technical crew. Amun will like to see Keshi out of the picture but the other members of the crew retained and Daniel Amokachi made the head coach.

Super-Eagles-1

The Super Eagles was ranked 43rd best national football team.
The national team, who is yet to recover from their failure to qualify for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, Afcon, in Equatorial Guinea have equally lost ground on the continent.
The Eagles are now ranked 9th in Africa.
The Desert Foxes of Algeria remains the highest world-ranked African team in 18th place and are followed by fellow North Africans, Tunisia in the 22nd spot.
Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, Cape Verde Islands, Cameroon, Nigeria and Zambia complete the list of the top ten teams in Africa.
There were no changes in the top 20 teams in the world; as Germany still sits on the number 1 spot.
This is the second time since 1993 that the Germans have finished a year on top and they were greatly helped with the massive points amassed en-route winning the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
In its statistical breakdown, FIFA revealed that a total of 834 matches were taken into consideration in the course of the year.
More than half of those games were friendlies -468, plus 302 qualifiers for continental final competitions and 64 World Cup contests.
The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World ranking, the first for the New Year, will be published on January 8, 2015.

Cristiano Ronaldo Receives the Golden Boot Award

After accepting the European Golden Shoe Award, Cristiano Ronaldo announced his plans to keep his golden feet at Real Madrid through at least 2018.
Despite constantly being linked with a return to Manchester United, the Portuguese superstar says he plans to honor his current contract before seeing if Real would like him to stick around.
Ronaldo, 29, was speaking after the awards ceremony held to honor his 31 La Liga goals last season, and said he feels “young and still a long way off retiring.”
Now he’s setting his sights on being the best player of all-time.

A three-time winner of the Golden Shoe and two-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, Ronaldo says he wants to become the best footballer in history.
“Being the best in Portugal isn’t enough for me, I’m going to work to be the best ever,” he said.
“I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, just to myself. I want to continue working in the same way because it’s harder and harder to improve my figures.
“I want to be the best at the best club in the world.”
It’s not impossible, that’s for sure. Ronaldo continues to thrive at Real Madrid after earning his star at Old Trafford. The sky really does feel the limit for Ronaldo, and apparently Spain is the location.

Ex-international, Chike Arisa called from his base in Holland to make enquiries on Nigerian football. He was overjoyed that Chris Giwa had agreed to sheath his sword for the good of the game but he could not come to terms with the news that Stephen Keshi agreed to come back after being shown the exit door by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

Veteran Sports Journalist, Kayode Tijani, says the solution to the crisis that has continued to rock Nigerian Football and its administration is for the Nigerian Government to embrace total withdrawal from Nigerian football.
Speaking on the Friday edition of Sunrise Daily on Channels Television, Tijani said that the reason why the National Sports Commission, NSC, would always want to lord it over the Nigerian Football Federation is because there is so much money in the federation being put in by the government.

Cruzeiro - leaders of the Brazilian Serie A - edged out Santos 1-0 in the opening leg of their semi-final but league form was not a clear indication in Rio de Janeiro with hosts Flamengo upsetting Mineiro at the Maracana.
Flamengo entered the match eight positions adrift of Mineiro in the league standings but overcame their in-form rivals with two goals in the final half hour.
Mineiro were on a six-game unbeaten run but had no answer to the home team late in Wednesday's first leg with Victor Caceres and Chicao getting the goals for Flamengo.
Caceres made it 1-0 in the 61st minute, heading Gabriel's cross home after Flamengo's initial free-kick had looped from one side of the penalty area to the other, while Chicao doubled the hosts' lead from the spot with 11 minutes remaining.
Mineiro's Josue inexplicably attempted to take the ball off Gabriel's toe by diving head first but only managed to barge into the legs of the Flamengo striker.
In Belo Horizonte, Willian struck the winner for Cruzeiro in the 11th minute, following up his own blocked shot to curl the ball inside the far post.

World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane has been suspended from coaching for three months for taking charge of a team without the right qualifications.

The Spanish Football Federation has banned the former France midfielder for leading Real Madrid Castilla, the European champions' reserve side.
Zidane's assistant Santiago Sanchez has also received a three-month ban.
Real issued a statement declaring their "absolute disagreement" with the decision, which they intend to fight.
The club said Zidane "has been authorised by the French Football Federation to work as a head coach in the category Real Madrid Castilla currently find themselves in".
Real's statement concluded: "Real Madrid will pursue every available legal avenue so that this decision is overturned."
Zidane was appointed reserve-team coach in the summer after working as assistant to Carlo Ancelotti last season, which ended with Real winning the Champions League.
The former France midfielder spent five seasons with Real as a player after joining from Juventus in 2001 for £45.8m, then a world-record fee.
He scored the winner as Real beat Bayer Leverkusen to win the Champions League in 2002, and was named World Footballer of the Year for a third time in 2003, having received the award in 1998 and 2000.
His playing career ended in controversy when he was sent off in the 2006 World Cup final - his last match before retiring - for headbutting Italy defender Marco Materazzi in the chest.
Zidane worked as an adviser to Real president Florentino Perez before he was appointed the club's sporting director in 2011.

Training: Reds return raring to go

Louis van Gaal's squad reassembled at the Aon Training Complex on Friday to begin preparations for the resumption of the Barclays Premier League, with a trip to West Bromwich Albion on Monday.
The Dutchman put his players through their paces on Friday morning and the club's official photographers were there to capture it all.
Most notably, Michael Carrick took part in the session as he looks to complete his recovery from an ankle injury that has kept him out of action so far this season, while Ander Herrera, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling also took part in training.

It would be recalled that the former Togo and Mali coach was booed by football fan when he stepped into the national stadium in Abuja during Nigeria versus Sudan 2015 Nations Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

The match ended 3-1 in favour of the Super Eagles.

Keshi, who took the Super Eagles job four years ago, won the 2013 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, in South Africa and led the team to the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2014 Confederations Cup, both held in Brazil.

However, the Nigerian senior team has been struggling to qualify for the 2015 AFCON having suffered two defeats against Congo and Sudan.

Keshi has been criticised for the calibre of players he has been inviting for national assignment especially those he selected for the 2014 World Cup.

Meanwhile, former Keshi assistants, Daniel Amokachi and Ike Shorounmu, are expected to proceed for a coaching course, fully funded by the NFF in any country of their choice.

Abuja - Amaju Pinnick Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) said on Monday that he was ready to resign his position if that would guarantee Super Eagles qualification for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Pinnick said this on Monday when he visited the Super Eagles training session at the National Stadium Abuja.
He said he was ready to sacrifice his position if that would make the Eagles win their remaining three games in the qualifying campaign.

The Eagles failed to record their first win in the qualifiers for the 2015 African Nations Cup, AFCON, against the Falcons of Jediane at the Municipal stadium in Khartoum as they were defeated 0-1.

Speaking on the poor performance of the Nigerian team, Keshi said his side would have claimed victory in the contest if early chances were converted.

“I must ask you to help me apologize to Nigerians for this loss because they have so much (belief) in this team and here we are disappointing them.

“The day was simply not ours, because we had a couple of early chances that we would used to bury the game but the ball simply refused to enter into the net.

According to Keshi, he was quoted out of context by many reporters at Wednesday’s media parley in Abuja.

“I don’t know where they got that portion of their reports from, but I never said Uche won’t play as long as I remain coach of the team. In the near future, if he changes his mind and indicates interest to play he will be considered on merit,” Keshi was quoted as saying in a media statement from Super Eagles media officer, Ben Alaiya.

Gabriel Heinze says Messi Will Not Retire At Barcelona.

According to goal.com, Heinze does not believe that the world famous striker will retire at Barcelona FC, but rather in the club where his successful career started.
Four-time Ballon d’Or winner left Newell’s Old Boys, founded in 1903, left for Catalunya at the age of 13, where he soon became a young sensation..

Super Eagles head coach Stephen Keshi, currently working on a match-by-match basis, says that getting the Eagles’ job is not a do or die issue for him.
This comes amid the talks about whether Keshi would be offered the new contract by the new president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Pinnick.
